Who we are
We are a UK-based international accountancy membership and standard-setting body. We are the only such body globally dedicated to public financial management.
We believe that improving public services is the key to changing lives for the better and that good public financial management is central to achieving this ambition.
Making it count
CIPFA is committed to changing lives for the better.
As a global leader in public financial management and governance, our aim is to make a difference to the world we live in. Our work enables people to prosper, protects the vulnerable and helps sustain the environment for future generations.
As a professional institute, we support our members and students to act with integrity and deliver excellence in public financial management throughout their careers.
By setting standards and advising public bodies and governments, we help ensure the money and resources used on behalf of citizens are raised and spent fairly, transparently, efficiently and are free from fraud and corruption.
Our thought leadership puts us at the heart of the policy debate, while our education and training offerings and range of advisory services support our members, students and other public finance professionals, helping them add value to their teams and the organisations for which they work.
CIPFA is a global body, operating at local, national and international level. Wherever we find ourselves and whoever we are supporting, our goal is to always make it count.

What our people say about working at CIPFA

Gareth Day, Business Development Manager
I’ve always gravitated toward service roles because I love helping people and seeing the impact of my work. I discovered CIPFA while working as a Sales Data Administrator and quickly realised how unique it was—the only professional body dedicated to public finance.
After reading the annual report, I was drawn to its values and knew I wanted to be part of it. I joined in 2016 and have since worked across several customer service roles, from Customer Support Officer to Membership & Customer Services Manager. CIPFA has supported my growth at every step. One thing I value most is the organisation’s size—it’s small enough that your work truly makes a difference.
Being able to shape the customer journey and see that impact is incredibly rewarding. Today, I’m a Business Development Manager, building on nearly a decade of experience developed here. CIPFA’s inclusive culture, through initiatives like ‘CIPFA Together’, provides wellbeing support, training, social opportunities, and even mental health first aiders. And the pension is exceptional—CIPFA doubles your contribution up to 10%.
Most importantly, I’ve built lifelong connections. I start each day energised by the opportunities ahead, knowing I’m surrounded by supportive colleagues who make even the tough days easier.

Naomi Whitmore, Policy & Network Advisor Internal Audit
Even before I was formally diagnosed with ADHD, my manager had worked with me to agree work adjustments, based on my needs. I have never worked somewhere so accepting and accommodating. I feel fully supported by both my line manager and colleagues.
2.5 years into my role at CIPFA and I have achieved so much more than I ever believed I could. I have been fully supported by my manager to achieve things within my own timeframe and have never felt pressure to run before I could walk.
I have been given so many opportunities to meet like minded people within the Internal Audit world. Running the Better Governance Forum has given me the opportunity and motivation to develop my own skillset also.
