About the Role
This role is offered on a 12-month fixed-term basis.
You will be responsible for driving international growth and ensuring the successful development and delivery of international projects. This will include developing market strategies for countries or regions and key thematic areas, establishing and managing stakeholder relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and responding to partner needs. You will play a key role in delivering CIPFA’s International Strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Corporate and Strategic
Own and drive market implementation plans for one or more of CIPFA’s key priority geographical areas.
Own and drive market implementation plans for one or more of CIPFA’s key priority thematic areas.
Lead a high standard of relationship management with key partners as well as identifying and building new partnerships, within designated priority areas.
Operational
Responsible for the business development process within designated priority areas, including identifying opportunities, developing projects, managing the preparation of proposals, and leading on negotiation and contracting.
Responsible for quality project delivery, including monitoring project progress, managing the project budget and reporting.
Lead on planning with colleagues to assess market needs and develop short to long term plans to address the needs.
Report on market developments, competitor activities and international opportunities to support proactive project and partnership activity.
Identify and secure business support and service delivery resource internally across the organisation.
Take the initiative to work collaboratively with other areas of the business to support product/service delivery.
Ensure systems and processes are in place to report performance efficiently and coherently against agreed targets.
Proactively contribute to team meetings, cross departmental meetings, account and board meetings, as required.
Lead external meetings with partners and act as an ambassador for CIPFA at conferences, seminars, careers events etc.
Input into a value proposition and messaging to promote CIPFA activities.
Management of international records in CRM and to always follow the company’s data protection and compliance procedures.
Support business development of new projects, wherever required.
To undertake other duties as requested by the line manager, or senior manager.
Management and Leadership
Ensure effective leadership of assigned partnerships and projects, ensuring regular communication with team, performance monitoring and evaluation.
Act as a main internal and external focal point for assigned partnerships and projects.
About You
You’ll be a confident communicator with strong interpersonal, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, able to build effective relationships at all levels. You’ll be organised and solutions-focused, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work accurately to deadlines. You’ll bring a performance-driven mindset and strong cultural awareness, with a collaborative and flexible approach to your work. An understanding of Public Finance Management and wider public sector issues, along with knowledge of one or more CIPFA priority areas, would be an advantage.
Qualifications
Educated to Degree level preferably in an international-related subject (international relations, international studies, political science) or equivalent practical experience in a project or administration environment. Essential
A post Graduate qualification in a business- or international-related subject (international relations, international studies, political science) Desirable
Experience
Extensive understanding of one or all these areas: international capacity building, public financial management, donor-funded projects, training, and professional bodies. Essential
Proven ability to establish productive relationships, with experience of influencing and sales in international markets, preferably in a membership or training organisation. Essential
Strong commercial acumen to develop and deliver successful market development plans against set targets. Essential
Experience of project management and leading project implementation, preferably of donor funded projects, and experience of working in an international context. Essential
Experience of working on competitive tenders, with an understanding of key donor requirements (World Bank, EU, FCDO, etc) Desirable
Experience and network within one or more CIPFA priority areas: Western Balkans, South Asia, East Africa or IPSAS, External Audit, Internal Audit and Anti-Corruption. Desirable
