About the Role
CIPFA is expanding its Advisory team (CIPFA Supports) and is looking for Technical Consultants with expertise in financial management, accountancy, and data-led consultancy. This is a fantastic opportunity for professionals with a strong background in public sector finance who are looking to apply their technical knowledge to support and transform public services.
You will work with high-profile public and government bodies, helping them address complex financial and operational challenges. This includes technical finance consultancy, financial modelling, capital strategy, and supporting finance system transformation projects.
As part of the wider CIPFA Supports team and working closely with our Technical and Policy team, you will help organisations develop practical, innovative solutions and deliver support that ensures they are resilient and effective in managing their resources
About You
You will be a CIPFA-qualified (or equivalent) finance professional with 3–5 years’ post-qualification experience in the public sector. You will have strong technical knowledge in areas such as capital accounting, MRP policy, financial modelling, and decision-making finance. You will be confident working with senior stakeholders and have a passion for delivering high-quality consultancy services.
Key tasks include but not limited to:
- Leading and delivering technical consultancy assignments, including financial modelling, capital strategy, and finance-led transformation projects.
- Acting as a subject matter expert in at least 4–5 technical finance areas.
- Supporting clients with finance system replacements, capability assessments, and performance improvement.
- Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to develop and deliver bespoke solutions.
- Developing new consultancy products and services, including data-led tools and business cases.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with public sector clients, including CEOs, Directors of Finance, and Heads of Service.
- Supporting business development by identifying new opportunities and contributing to proposals.
- Deputising for the Managing Consultants on technical reviews and specialist assignments.
- Support the design, development, and delivery of the wider CIPFA Supports services strategic plan.
- Provide CIPFA Supports input to corporate initiatives across all service delivery areas including Policy and Marketing.
- Provide an external voice for CIPFA Supports services at conferences, seminars and workshops.
- Effectively prepare business proposals and presentations.
- Identify and negotiate schedules, milestones, and resources required to meet project objectives.
- Responsibility for the effective delivery of projects on-time, on-budget and within scope meeting or exceeding the stakeholder expectations.
